San Antonio Breastfeeding Coalition

SABC has identified top goals to reach during 2009. Through this website, we hope you understand how we will strive to reach our goals as well as how you can help us. Our current goals are:

* Increase breastfeeding initiation and duration in the San Antonio area

* Increase the number of breast milk donors

* Identify breastfeeding support and resources available in the San Antonio area

* Increase the availability of lactation rooms in the workplace

* Identify breastfeeding-friendly workplaces

* Seek opportunities to promote and support breastfeeding to women in high risk categories – teens, working women, older first time mothers

* Develop professional education programs/literature that will help prevent breastfeeding problems, recognize challenges and offer options to solve them if they occur

* Develop professional education programs/literature focusing on the special needs of premature infants and their mothers

* Create and deliver breastfeeding education baskets for Obstetricians, Pediatricians, and Family Practice doctors

* Host a breastfeeding seminar for professionals

Medications and Mothers Milk 2006 is a comprehensive reference on the impact of currently used medications on breastfeeding mothers and infants.  Written by renowned clinical pharmacologist, Dr. Thomas W. Hale, this thousand plus page book is packed with information on more than 814 drugs, vitamins, herbs, and vaccines.  It includes tables on radioisotopes, radiocontrast agents, and common cold remedies.
